The Cover

The Gogol cover for Far West Almanac. It's now no longer the cover because the interview with him never happened. But it will be in the next issue in full colour somewhere.
I might still be doing THE cover.

I was trying to find the scanned finished piece on my hard-drive, and I can't. This is a sketch for it. Rockin' Ronda. For an assignment combining type and image.

trying to access vision

small collection of sketches. trying to access vision, and having a hard time.
these were some attempts of pushing it out.

how i felt inside:

trying to catch freedom, or as St.St. puts it, "the freedom that i'm chasing is the void i'm running from." don't think you're doing me a favour giving it to me. it's impossible to hold, anyway.

leave you with Hunter S. Thompson: "Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death..."

album cover

Will update with progress.

Center will be cool vintage, outside graphic bits that 70's red orange. "Manzanita Ridge" woven into the devil's crawling cactus that is morphing out of the poppies' stems.

altar

This is inside of a matchbox. I'm still on this real personal kick--working out my iconography, visually representing my goals.

This is the base for the altar.
and this is the back. It's a quote from the last pages of Hunter S. Thompson's Hell's Angels, which is one of my top three favourite books.
To me it's talking about the triangle of fear, freedom, and adrenaline.

I'm sort of in the process of "thingfinding" the rest: making mini candles, maybe tiny scrolls, baby bird feathers, blossoms...

I discovered this store on Hollywood Blvd. today called Wacko and it's this huge store full of things I love. It's definitely stuff you're going to have trouble finding other places. For example, this is my wishlist from my trip there:
• this book Narcisa by Jonathan Shaw,

• My Freedamn! 4 Hippie Rags Issue (and the other books in that series, too.)

• a tiny Rat Fink patch
• Coyote knuckle bones 10 for $7.50!
• on that note, got to get a jewelry drill still... UNIVERSE: send me income!
• infinite amount of Tiki paraphenalia
• coolest postcards ON EARTH
• these beautiful Mexican paper decorations, layers of fringed cut paper in different shapes with an image in the middle. I mean, I could make that, I guess.

I'm also definitely going to get back into embroidery because I flipped through the Nudie (suits) book at that store and it was super inspirational.

south paradiso

This is a practice painting for what may become the best thing that's ever happened to me art-wise. This is with leather acrylics, which are more liquid than regular acrylics. I paint with watercolours, not acrylics, so any critique, especially regarding technique, is highly appreciated.
The canvas is 4"x6"
The "assignment" was to do an Hawaiian landscape with a waterfall. This is the piece in progress, maybe 70%, maybe 80%.

Manifestation

This is a pronto plate print, which is about how gum arabic, ink, and water react with each other.  These are large prints, about 14"x 20"
my plate degraded so rapidly, I could only do four. I've posted all four so that you can see the progression/regression.
This concept is definitely a work in progress since it's a direct and purposeful reflection of a mix of my current goals, wishes and a tiny bit of iconography that is representative of aspects of my spirituality.

manifestation exercise

a to-be pronto plate print.  the pencil under the future ink.

Tthe manifestation of intent for all of my wishes, goals, and spirituality.  I am taking the internal--turning thought into thing--it is The Truth as soon as I deem it so.
